About david

My mantra in life is to get comfortable, being uncomfortable so I do have to push myself outside of my comfort zone…

Originally working in the corporate world as an underwriter at Lloyds of London I escaped the rat race in 2003 to set up my own property company. A company designed from the beginning to be able to run from anywhere in the world as I had entered the 2005-6 clipper around the world yacht race, so I was going to be out of touch a bit!

This was when I first started using a business coach. The impact of a coach not only had an amazing effect on the financial side of the business. But it meant it was designed as exactly the business I wanted it to be from day one. He also helped me be calmer, more focused and in control of the business.

Having someone I could call when I was in a panic with an overwhelming problem. And after having a chat realising, I have instead actually got a great opportunity that I am excited about. It is amazing how a skilled coach can change your perspective on a situation

The real value wasn’t the knowledge and skills I learnt at the time. But how I keep using those same insights and tools over and over in all aspects of my life.

Talking to other business owners years later I realised that the idea of having designed myself out of the business from the beginning was genius. A lot of business owners end up so tied up with all aspects of their business that their dream of working for themselves can very quickly turn into a nightmare. Something I can definatly help you with

Becoming a millionaire, personally owning over 60 houses with all the trappings of wealth from the overseas holiday homes to the flash cars. With the location independence to give me a real sense of freedom. Then after the housing crash in 2008 going bankrupt, losing it all and ending up homeless.

There have definatly been some uncomfortable times in my journey. Most by choice, some not. But all have helped me expand my comfort zone and realise I can accomplish more than I ever realised with the right mindset.

This path led me to realise that money didn’t actually buy, me personally, happiness. So rather than chase money again, I realised that helping others was more rewarding. Which is where my passion for coaching and mentoring came from.

In 2008 I became a qualified business coach, NLP Master practioner & hypnotist.

I went on to create a social enterprise to help charities become more effective by implementing targeted, skilled volunteering from businesses.

Over the last 20 years I have set up and run various businesses all designed so that I can run them from anywhere in the world.

I now help coach and mentor others who want to escape the rat race, set up their own businesses, invest in property, travel the world – whatever their dream is.

“My experience is that you cannot have everything you want but you can have anything you really want. You just need to decide what it is and then plan your exit from the comfort zone.”

adventures

One of my passions where it’s useful to be OK to be uncomfortable at times is adventures.

Following an afternoon sailing on the Solent on a corporate entertaining day. The obvious next step for me, with no sailing experience was to do the 2005-6 Clipper around the world yacht race.

Horribly expensive but an amazing experience where I caught the adventure bug. Interestingly, I now volunteer for a youth development charity where I get to sail, with the same skipper, on a very similar 72-foot racing yacht, but with a much more interesting crew and for nothing.

Generally, I have found in life the challenge isn’t a lack of resources but a lack of resourcefulness.

I have done various banger rallies, driving knackered old cars across the Sahara Desert to Timbuktu and through the Gobi Desert to outer Mongolia; all starting from the UK! Raising tens of thousands of pounds for various charities.

“A ship in a harbor is safe, but that’s not what a ship is built for.”
